KNOXVILLE, TN – Southern Blues artist and songwriter Doug Wilhite has released a new lyric video for “Cheap Whiskey”. Produced by ProMotion LLC, the video is available now on his YouTube page.

“Cheap Whiskey” is a tip of the hat to that sweet party liquor and all the trouble it can help you find. It’s a good-natured nod to bad decisions, good company, and the mornings that follow, told with the easy humor of a songwriter who’s heard a few of these stories firsthand. Wilhite keeps the tone loose and the guitar honest, leaving the listener to decide whether it’s a warning or an invitation.

Born in Helena, Arkansas, on the banks of the Mississippi, Wilhite grew up in the heart of Blues Country. He picked up the guitar at 12 and was writing songs by 15, shaped by the storytelling of Hank Williams, Steve Earle, Tom Petty, and The Allman Brothers. That Delta upbringing still anchors his sound, and “Cheap Whiskey” carries it forward.

Wilhite’s songwriting credentials run deep. He signed a publishing deal with Simply Grand Music in Memphis in 2012 and began working with Dan Hodges Music in Nashville in 2016. His song “Steal A Heart,” co-written with Canadian artist Tenille Arts, appeared on her 2017 album Rebel Child. It debuted at #2 on iTunes, helped earn the album SCMA’s Album of the Year, and has been streamed more than one million times.

A road-tested performer, Wilhite plays solo acoustic shows across the Southeast, with a focus on East Tennessee, where he now lives. He has also returned several times to his home turf for the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, along with appearances on the KFFA King Biscuit Time radio show and WDVX’s Blue Plate Special in Knoxville.

“Cheap Whiskey” follows Wilhite’s debut full-length album, Home No More, released in January 2023 and preceded by the 2022 singles “Like It Was A Crown” and “Long Way To Memphis.”
